When I saw this book on the September BOTM list I was hesitant because I already had a long list TBR at that time. But I’m so glad I picked it up!

This is such a powerful memoir of Qian about the first few years she moved to America with her parents and lived as an undocumented kid. It covers stories from when she was seven years old to when she started middle school.

I loved how honest Qian was in this book. She shows us what an undocumented child suffers from along with her family, and didn’t shy away from the not-so-bright side of her family story. She writes in a genuine tone and in an expressive language.
